Description:

Directs/assists the organization to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local safety, health and industrial hygiene regulations with a special emphasis for direct support of refinery safety efforts. Develops working relationships with operations and corporate support groups to ensure thorough understanding of Valero’s commitment to safety excellence. Develops working relationships with government agencies who administer safety and health regulations. Provides occupational safety, health and industrial hygiene expertise to operations personnel to help assure regulatory compliance.

• Works closely with Operations, Process Safety, Environmental and Legal departments to ensure development of consistent Valero corporate policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
• Monitors and participates in the legislative and regulatory development process with respect to safety and health matters. Develops and communicates action plans to executive management, refining, and other business units.
• Stewards systems and processes that manage communication of safety and health incidents throughout the company. Develop and distribute reports and communications that highlight current risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Participates in significant incident investigations at business units.
• Assists with federal, state, and local regulatory / government agency inspections and investigations at business units.
• Develops/coordinates the creation of Valero safety standards, programs, and practices to drive safety performance improvements within the organization.
• Ensures implementation of health and industrial hygiene programs and develops strategies to ensure consistent programs are in place at business units.
• Assists in the development of health & safety audit / assessment criteria. Supports safety assessment program to help ensure that operating facilities bring timely closure to outstanding issues. Monitors business unit compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
• Provides site safety support.
• Provides assistance to the sites regarding the implementation of corporate standards, site standards, best practices, and other program needs.
• Participates in plaintiff litigation as liaison between business units, legal, and risk management.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, or related degree required. * 10 years of safety experience required, with both field and corporate experience. * CSP and/or CIH preferred. * Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.

Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
